Loom Noise Filter Not Working? Clean the Recording Instead
Loom's built-in noise filtering can improve a recording, but it does not guarantee that every unwanted sound disappears. A loud fan, room noise, keyboard clicks or changing background sounds can still be noticeable, especially when they overlap with speech.
If you have not recorded yet, improving the microphone setup is usually the best first step. If the Loom recording already exists, you can clean the downloaded video afterward instead of recreating the presentation.
Why your Loom recording can still sound noisy
Noise filtering is only one part of the recording chain. The final result also depends on microphone gain, microphone placement, the type of background noise and how loudly the unwanted sound was captured.
1. The microphone captured too much background sound
If the microphone is far from your voice or the input level is high, it captures more of the room before any processing happens. Fans, air conditioning, computer noise and conversations nearby can become part of the recording.
2. Keyboard clicks are difficult to suppress completely
Keyboard noise is made of short, changing sounds. It behaves differently from a steady hum or fan, so some clicks may remain audible even when noise filtering is active.
3. The unwanted sound overlaps with your voice
Noise removal works best when the voice and the unwanted sound are reasonably distinguishable. If another person speaks at the same time or a loud sound covers part of a word, cleanup becomes more difficult.
4. The original recording itself contains the noise
Once background noise is captured inside the actual recording, changing your microphone setup later cannot change that file. At that point the useful workflow is post-production cleanup.
5. Strong processing can make speech sound unnatural
More noise reduction is not always better. Very aggressive processing can make speech sound metallic, thin or artificial. The goal should be clearer speech with fewer distractions, not complete silence at any cost.
Loom sounds fine in playback, but the downloaded video is still noisy
The important thing is the actual file you plan to publish, send or edit. If the downloaded Loom video still contains background noise, the problem is now inside the exported recording rather than inside your current Loom settings.

If you have not recorded the Loom yet, preventing noise is usually better than repairing it later.
- Move the microphone closer to your mouth.
- Reduce excessive microphone gain.
- Move a laptop or desktop fan farther from the microphone.
- Avoid typing while speaking when possible.
- Record a short test before an important presentation.
But once the presentation, demo or walkthrough is already finished, recording everything again may cost far more time than cleaning the existing file.
